Angela Durazo has overcome some extremely large obstacles to enjoy the sport that she loves. At age 20, she found a large lump in her right breast. She underwent surgery to remove the mass, and was fortunate to receive the news that the tumor was benign. As a result of the surgery, she would later test positive for Methicillin Resistant Staphylococcus Aureus (MRSA) which is an antibiotic resistant staph infection that is often deadly. She began racing triathlons in 2010 in attempt to add a new challenge to her life and found improvement early. Almost one year later, Durazo was again faced with adversity when she was diagnosed with the progressively disabling autoimmune disease known as Rheumatoid Arthritis. Durazo is now a spokesperson for RA and competes in triathlons around the world, where she earned her first podium finish just ten months after her RA diagnosis.
