Nicoletta Simonazzi's career exploded in 2009 after winning the crossing of the Straight of Messina (5.2km), an important race in Italy. Nicoletta then set her sights on international competitions, particularly the stages of the World Cup and the FINA Grand Prix in Dubai. She experienced great improvements there and the following year was ready to scale the heights of the Grand Prix leader board. That year Nicoletta finished 7th place in the world rankings following a fantastic 3rd place effort in Serbia. In 2011, she finished 6th place in the world rankings despite experiencing a nagging injury throughout the Grand Prix series. Following a great training year in 2012, Nicoletta has her sights set on becoming one of the best open water swimmers in Europe, and the world. She is currently competing for a spot in this year's World Championships and European Championships (25km).
