You told us and we listened! The latest firmware update for the Swimsense performance monitor is now released and is available for all Swimsense® users. This update lets you customize your Swim Mode screen. While swimming, you can now view the stats you want to see, and the numbers are BIGGER! At a glance, you can easily view your workout distance, interval times, or whatever metric you desire.
Using the Swimsense Bridge software, you can configure the display settings of your current watch. Choose to display 1, 2 or 3 different metrics on one screen, and also have the option to create alternate screens with other metrics. Simply drag-and-drop to create your own screens.
Downloading the firmware update is quick and easy. Users will be automatically notified to update the new firmware when connecting to the Bridge software. Take advantage of this great new feature and stay motivated to reach your goals!

I think it’s certainly better to be able to remove some of the metrics that don’t mean much to me during my swim. I must admit the use of screen real estate now looks really sparse though – I’m sure I’ll just get used to that though.
It’s probably worth reminding people that firmware updates wipe most of the device settings. Bit of a pain – but I guess probably inevitable if you’re flashing all the storage on the device. If I’d thought of this before I wouldn’t have had to deal with the problem mid-workout.
Certainly like the customisable screens but is there a way to also have the original Swimsense screen as one of the screens. Just need to have the original screen fixed so its not customisable and allow to disable for users to opt to use the original or use their own customised screens The original screen had a summary view of everything which I found useful in some aspects so wondering if there is any way to get the original screen as well.
Derek,
Unfortunately there is no way to show the original screens unless you downgrade the unit (not recommended). However, the original screens can still be achieved through the customization process. Below is a picture of the original screens of the Swimsense.
The main numbers in the middle represent the workout time. The smaller numbers below are the various metrics which you can customize. So if you wanted to represent this again on your watch, drag-and-drop the Workout time as the top line stat, and the other desired metrics for the 2nd and 3rd rows within your “Screen Builder” configuration setup.

Terrific improvement.
I have made myself a display with just distance and pace, thus making the digits more readable under water during the flip-turn.
However when I glance at the pace value on each flip turn the value indicated seems irrelevant (e.g. 2’20″, 1’50″, 1’40″ gradually lowering the longer the distance swum, instead of 1’30″, the real pace I’m swimming). The pace value displayed at the end of the interval however is spot on (1’30″).
Is there a technical aspect I am missing ? I realize the watch cannot instantly, upon a flip-turn, show me the pace of the 100m I’ve just completed (it would need for me to swim a little more after my flip turn to detect the change of direction I guess) but it could show me the pace of the previous 100m, or maybe induce a -50m shift ?
Anyway thanks for all the work,
Regards,
François
Today I used the Swimsense for the first time and I must say I like the “screen builder” immediately.
Great idea!
That brings me to the following question.
I also have some idea’s.
1. Create an extra screen, on this screen users can manually add there non standard stroke meters. For example: (If needed) Swimmer pushes a button after every lane, Swimsense saves this data as “Other”. Or 3 buttons for multiple options like Legs, drill, and other. This helps swimmmers to register the real distance they have been swimming.
2. Create a setting to beep after every X distance/time. This helps swimmers counting lanes. I like 10 or 20 lanes when I’m swimming 1 km. And every 30 or 45 sec when i’m doing a 10x100m. Then a nice option would be to beep from each interval or total time.
Where can I put my ideas for the development team?
Kind regards,
Gerben
well, I really like seeing ACTIVE time (time actually swimming) and REST time (total time resting)… can’t we get those options? they show in the workout summary, and some people like me aren’t BIGTIME swimmers…
I just want to see my interval distances and times, and then be able to see my active and rest time for my workout and total distance on another….
Also, guys, maybe a drill can’t be accurately recognized, but in your software engineering wisdom, can’t you create a button push IN “swim mode” where it stops trying to recognize the stroke, and just records distance and time for a DRILL?
That way, at least during a WORKOUT, you can get stroke data and drill time and rest time?
Trent,
Thank you for your thoughts. The watch does have difficulty recognizing drills and kicking, we havent quite figured that out yet. Having said that, the Swimsense still does a much better job at this than any other device available on the market today. That doesnt mean we arent closing in on an answer — we have been mulling this over since the watch was first released. Thanks for your patience.
Once you upload your workout into the log, it should be fairly easy to determine rest time versus swim time. I realize that there are no totals for each but most competitive swimmers are primarily concerned with rest intervals above overall time on the wall. It is something else to consider moving forward and perhaps another layer we can add to the next gen of the log. Thanks again for the ideas.
