Love my Neptune player! Review by Nikki

I am a triathlete who swims several times per week, usually for 1 hour each session. I have been using this unit for my swim for about 4 months now. Unit is easy to use, and doesn't get in the way during my swim sets. The sound quality is ok. Overall using this player is much better than trying to fidget with ear buds that leak water and fall out. Overall I am very pleased!

I love my SwimP3!! I almost never do a workout without it, and I can change the songs to pump me up for a tough set or to a slower song for my cool down. Sometimes I will extend my swim just to hear the entire song, and maybe the next song too.

Amazing invention! Review by Try-athlete

Pros: Easy to load up MP3s. Quickly charges. Easily attaches to goggles. Plays music well underwater. No pain in ears because there are no headphones. Looks cool and gets you tons of attention and the envy of your friends and team mates. (warning: "positive" attention is still largely dependent on personality and shallow assessments of physical appearance. Neptune swimp3 can only help so much. ;) )

Cons: occasionally the sound pads come away from your head if you haven't taken the time to strap them under your goggle straps correctly. This is easily fixed by tightening the straps over the pads. Neptune must be worn with goggles and while this is kind of obvious; it's important to mention since a triathlete might buy these hoping to keep the music non stop and unless s/he wants to bike and run in goggles s/he'll have to switch from the Neptune to some other MP3 player on land. Which since s/he's changing shoes and getting a bike and all that really doesn't matter. Besides whose gonna spend 160 bucks on an underwater MP3 player who doesn't own some form of basic MP3 player or smartphone already.

Overall: By far the most convenient and consistently audible head set as compared to the majority of the other underwater "headphones". Other actual head phones either fall out repeatedly or hurt your ears from the suction of the ear buds. I highly recommend these to anyone who swims laps for long periods of time or who wants something that can play music even while all out sprinting a 50.

If you want more proof do a quick google search for best underwater headphones and read the reviews by critics who actually swim as much as you do. That's how I made my decision to buy these and I have been using them for over a month with no problems or complaints.

Ps: I didn't mention it anywhere but the technology is really impressive.

Hope you found this helpful. I tried to write it so you could tell I'm not someone hired by Finis and am actually a triathlete who loves his Swimp3 player. Thanks for reading!

I used to dread going to the pool for exercise. There are only so many laps you can do with no external sensory stimulation. Then I got the Finis MP3 player. The time flies by with my favorite music playing in my head. And I feel the quality of the sound is quite good, especially since it is using bone conduction.

Swimming Jazz Review by donna

The only problem w/ the Finis SwimP3 products is that after 1-1.5 yrs they quit working.
However, Finis has a great support team and customer service, and in 6 years this is the only device I had to pay a part of to replace.
I was only pondering upgrading to the Neptune (to swim to pod casts!) but was sent one
The sound quality is much better than the regular SwimP3, so I am swimming miles to Miles and can hear almost every note
Initially I thought it was too cumbersome and complicated compared to the predecessor, but does not take long to get used to it and I love it.
Thank you Finis!

Better than the SwimP3 Review by soliera

Neptune was substituted for my SwimP3 which died after 1 year. This is a drawback of these audio products, they don't last > 1-1.5 years in my experience. Finis has always come through however and replaced them. After 6 years, this is only the 2nd time I have had to pay a part of the price to replace the SwimP3.
I expressed interest in the Neptune, but did not request this upgrade as a replacement. When it arrived I was initially dismayed as it seemed more complicated than the SwimP3 buds.
I LOVE IT! Sound quality is so good I downloaded Jazz and even the slow quieter riffs come through crisp.
I haven't downloaded podcasts yet but plan to. The device is not complicated but it is more to deal with initially than the normal ear buds. SOUND QUALITY WORTH THE EXTRA PIECE

In all fairness I won this at an event so can not comment on price. I can however say that I have tried multiple different water proof mp3 type devices. My problem with al of them have been the same and that is the funny feeling of swimming with plugged ears. I have never worn ear plugs in 40 years of swimming so don't like them that much. None of the other in ear products that I have used deliver as good a sound as the Neptune. I really like this product and find it to work very well. As a matter of fact I had to turn the volume down as it was actually too loud. I can whole heartedly recommend this product.

Bone conduction NICE Review by PXG

Just started using my new Neptune. I have used various types of headphones and water proofed devices. Tried iDevices. I have been swimming a long time and always had trouble wearing in ear buds. Just made my head feel funny and as the swim progressed usually past 3000 yards buds started coming off needing adjustment and as water got in my ears it became difficult to hear music. That is not the case with the Neptune. Swam 5000 no problem could hear music throughout almost needed to turn music down as sound was that good. Best swimming music player I have yet used.

Not sure I like this one better than the last. Maybe its pilot error. The ear pieces come off sometimes during turns and I find the screen to be bulky. But still it sounds good and helps a lot. Oh yeah the charger is separate so I have already lost it.

I use my Neptune daily. Swimming to upbeat music really helps out on those 6,000 yard + workouts!!!! The other MP3 players with earbuds that go into your ear canal never worked for me, as the seal that the earbud makes in my ear canal gets broken almost immediately, I get water in my ears, and 90% plus of the music volume is lost and muffled. Finis' bone conduction technology definitely gets the job done!!!!!

A great improvement over previous versions Review by Buttercup

I have been using SwimP3 "waterproof headphones" for about four years now. While it was novel at first to have music while I swam, the constant problems of the sound cutting out, earpieces falling out, etc. often left me frustrated during my workouts and I spent far too much time tending what was supposed to be enhancing my workout. Earlier this year I purchased bone-conduction headphones for running and loved the concept - music and yet the ability to hear surrounding noise (perfect for when I'm trail running!). When I saw that technology was now offered for swimming I had to give it a try. I must say, well done FINIS. When I'm under water the music is easy and crisp to hear, and when I'm above water I can talk to the people around me without struggling to hear what they're saying. The ability to easily see what I'm listening to, adjust the volume, and an auto-shutoff function if left on pause are all great features. I'd highly recommend these without hesitation.

I have used the SwimMP3 - blue for several years and love it. The battery just died and I bought a Neptune. The sould quality is better but the song selection NEEDS IMPROVEMENT. I downloaded 157 MP3s in 7 folders, same as my blue, and I expected it to play folder by folder using the sequence of songs in each folder. WRONG. Even with shuffle off it ramdonly selected songs and only from one folder. I took them out of folders and even numbered each. It did not start playing at "1" How can I get it to play the way I want? I am registared with Finis but cannot registar my Neptune and when I start a Support Ticket it says my email or password are incorrect.

Almost too complicated..... Review by Lynn

Ok, not being from Gen-X, it took me much longer to get used to the features than basically turning it on and playing the songs. Still haven't figured out the easiest way to get to the schuffle mode so therefore every time I put on a new song, the songs start from the beginning and so I have to forward through to get to my new songs but that's probably just stupid ME> ... Anyways, the sounds is superior. I am not a big one for looking on the screen at all once I am in the water, plus a favorites list is just a bit too extreme....I just put it on and go.... but still love the ability to listen to music while I swim. I just don't understand why everyone in the pool doesn't have one....like what a GREAT Father's Day or Mother's Day gift from the kids that never know what to get them!

For the first time in decades, I can swim laps without developing a nauseating level of boredom. As others have said, the time flies by, although if there's too much ZZ Top in the mix everything goes TOO fast and my lungs blow out.
The very first time, I thought I couldn't get it to work right. But then I remembered the underwater difference. As soon as I dunked my head under, it sounded just as good as my living room. Without ear-plugs.

I'm on my 3rd unit. The 1st two went on the blink due to leaks within a few weeks. These two were from the same batch, so.. New unit a different batch, so we will see how it works

I will say Finis support has been outstanding in resolving the issue. I love the unit when it works.

Love the player for music - lectures not so much Review by Uni Buck

I love the player for listing to music. The sound is so clear that I actually had to turn down the volume ( I am an old guy with not the beat of hearing) However, I tried listing to lectures which are littered with medical jargon in which every word counts with little differentiation of words (hypercalemia vs hypercalcemia so it was not as good of a fit.

My first player developed a leak and stopped about five minutes in the pool. The company quickly replaced the unit and love the one I have.
I am very pleased with this product and have recommended to my friends but perhaps leave the lectures to the hot tub time

A Fine Addition, But Some Problem with Goggle dynamic Review by Barracuda
Value
Quality

The music is fine, but the clips onto the goggles make them vulnerable to leakage. Also, increasing the goggle strap tension caused unacceptable pressure over the orbits after about two hours of continuous swimming. I will have to purchase new goggles to adjust to this effect. Also,I had to return the system because of a defect in one of the speakers. However, the company was very responsive and will send a new product after they receive the defective one I had to mail back. I will have to test the system with new goggles to determine the practicality of swimming with it for the 2-3 hours of swimming that I do in open water.

The device is OK. What I find, however, is that we make a lot of noise underwater as we swim, so the quality of the listening itself is not that good, and if your cheeks keep moving in and out of the water, this also changes the way you hear.

The Love of swimming, getting up at 4am getting in that pool at 5am in any weather from 37F on deck or raining and swimming 4000 yards with my Masters team is a lot of work but with the Finis Neptune I can enjoy my favorite tunes and stay energized daily on every stroke, set, and practice.

Easy to use interface & crystal clear sound with my head under the water! But also just as important when I am heads up at the wall and listening to the Coach call out our next set, with the bone conduction against my cheek and not in my ears, I can hear every word. HUP!!!

New Screen Review by Billbo Baggins

Wow, the new screen on the Neptune is a great new feature over the SwimMP3. While I am swimming, I can take the screen off the back of my head, look at the screen to remember what artist is currently playing, and then put it back on my head and resume my laps. This only takes about a minute or two so it really doesn't interfere with my laps at all. I find myself using the new screen all the time while I am swimming. I really don't know how I survived just doing lap sets with the SwimMP3 without stopping in the middle of the set to consult the screen. Way to go Finis!
