True swimming power comes from the hips, which makes the Hydro Hip such an important training tool. With two blades that sit on the hips, the Hydro Hip helps swimmers properly identify timing of the hips, arms and body. The Hydro Hip also improves core strength with resistance by working the muscles that aid in rotation. Best used during drills or short distances, the effects of the Hydro Hip are most felt when removed and the lessons of timing remain
The Tech Toc is a simple training tool worn around the waist that provides swimmers with instant stroke feedback and ensures proper hip position during all four strokes. Made of a plastic capsule, the Tech Toc utilizes a ball bearing and acoustic amplifiers in order to create a sound as the device is tipped from side to side. This audible feedback lets swimmers hear and feel hip movements and notify them of proper hip rotation and undulation. Utilizing the hips and core muscles is one of the best ways to create an efficient stroke. The Tech Toc also has a Delay Setting which delays the ball bearing, forcing swimmers to exaggerate hip training.
What is the difference between the hydro hip and the tech toc?
The hydro hip builds strength and endurance while the tech toc gives stroke feedback to help create proper hip position. See more info below:
The hydro hip has two blades that sit on the hips which help the swimmer properly identify the timing of the hips, arms and body all together. The blades also cause resistance in the water making the swim require more effort. This builds your core muscles to create a more powerful stroke and more endurance.

When is the best time to use the hydro hip?
The hydro hip is really good to use during drills and short distances. You feel the effects of the tool when it is removed. By using it you will learn to swim fast with that resistance which will help cut time of your swims once it is removed.
What strokes can these tools be used it?
The tech toc is meant to be used during all four strokes. We recommend using it horizontally either directly across the hips or waist when doing both freestyle and backstroke. When doing backstroke or butterfly put it parallel to the back so it can act as a fulcrum.
The hydro hip is best if used during freestyle but it can also be used for breast stroke. If using for breast stroke the belt should be moved to the chest area to prevent dropped elbows and create a better arm stroke.
