I have owned a pair of XL Fulcrum paddles for the past five or so years. I'm in the water five days a week and the paddles are on my hands for 1500-2500 meters of my typical 3500 meter/day workout. They work well with freestyle (crawl), backstroke, and even breaststroke (though sizing down for this stroke may be a good idea). They are incredible for butterfly. The only discomfort I have experienced is from slight hyperextension pressure on the second joint of my middle fingers when I do 1000s or longer. Keeping the finger strap a bit loose and focusing on a good palmer cup (even with the paddle on) alleviates most of this.

As always, keep good shoulder extension through the stroke and ensure that you buy the correct size for your current strength level. It is better to work a smaller paddle faster than it is to get an oversized set and shred your rotator cuff.
